Thursday, December 15. 7:00pm. "Tropical Birding" with Joel Trick. What does a wildlife biologist do in his free time when his working days are spend working on restoring endangered bird species? Go birding in Central America, of course! Joel will be sharing photos of his birding trips to Costa Rica, Belize, and more. He'll be able to answer your questions about where to go, what you might see, and why tropical birds are important to us in Wisconsin. "Exploring Brown County's Cultural and Natural History Using Internet GIS Maps" Join Jeff DuMez in exploring maps and detailed aerial photos dating back to 1938 using the Brown County's free online GIS (Geographic Information System). The County's fascinating geologic history will also be discussed and highlighted using the system's incredibly detailed terrain map layer. Wednesday February 8, 6:30pm. "TSI-Tornado Scene Investigations: The art and science of storm surveys" Thunderstorms produce a variety of severe weather, including damaging straight-line winds and tornadoes. After significant storms move through an area, the National Weather Service (NWS) sends a team of experts to examine the damage. Based on clues left by the storm, the NWS makes a determination on the cause of the damage and intensity of the storm. The presentation will focus on post-storm surveys and identifying the cause of wind damage from thunderstorms. Natural History Lecture Series at the Neville Museum, 210 Museum Place, Green Bay. Thursday, February 16, 2012. 7:00 pm."Oconto Marsh Wildlife and Projects." The Oconto Marsh is part of the West Shore Important Bird Area. John Huff, DNR wildlife biologist, will present an overview of the Oconto Marsh, its management and wildlife. Marsha Present will speak about a new group which is working to improve public accessibility and use of the marsh. NEW Audubon has co-sponsored 2 of their events: a frog hike and a fall migration event. They’ve got plans for the future that will interest anyone looking for another nearby outdoor destination. Annual Banquet with presentation by Noel Cutright “Putting Golf Balls to Conserving Birds: The Story of the Forest Beach Migratory Preserve and the Western Great Lakes Bird and Bat Observatory”. Noel Cutright will describe how an 18-hole golf course is being converted into an oasis for migratory preserve and at the same time taking advantage of the golf course's clubhouse to serve as the home of the Western Great Lakes Bird and Bat Observatory, a new organization devoted to advancing knowledge of bird and bat populations and their conservation through coordinated research, monitoring, and education using good science. go into their roosts at dusk. In 2011 Green Bay
participated in a national Chimney Swift surveys, more than 250 Chimney Swifts were seen near Downtown Green Bay. Learn about these unique birds that are sometimes mistaken for Swallows. Tangbi, born and raised in Bhutan, is a dedicated photographer, birder, and goodwill ambassador for his native land. He will present a breathtaking slide-show program describing the wonders of the "Cloud Kingdom" of Bhutan, its philosophy of gross national happiness, history, culture and traditions, wildlife and birding, and government.This country in the Eastern Himalayas is one of the top ten biodiversity hotspots in the world and the centre of 221 Global Endemic Bird Areas.The people practice Tantric Mahayana Buddhism; a philosophy which considers it essential to take care of the land and maintain the pristine environment in order that life thrives.
